Volunteers needed for third annual UNT Beautification Day on April 2

Spring is almost here and UNT is cleaning up for the new season. The university's campus beautification committee is sponsoring its third annual UNT Beautification Day in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful and Keep Denton Beautiful's Great American Cleanup campaigns. The campaigns focus on litter prevention, waste reduction and community beautification and improvement.

UNT's campus-wide event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 2. Lunch will be provided following the event at the University Union portico. Bob Killam, administrative services officer in biological sciences and this year's event coordinator, says faculty and staff who would like to volunteer should e-mail him at killam@unt.edu or they and their families may meet in the parking lot west of Terrill Hall (Lot 9) on April 2 to sign up for a variety of volunteer activities.

Killam says volunteers may choose from projects such as litter pick-up, flower bed cleaning and planting, tree planting and outside painting.

He says that at the past two events, volunteers planted trees at the UNT Research Park and Eagle Point Campus, painted a cement wall and metal rail on Welch Street and cleaned out and mulched parking lot tree islands as well as generally cleaned up the campus.
