Several staff members were recognized at the President's Staff Sack Lunch Feb. 24. Outstanding staff awards were presented to Margaret Ambuehl, Computing and Information Technology Center; Donna Asher, Human Resources; Russ Stukel, Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science; and Dan Emenheiser, Office of Equity and Diversity. Outstanding department awards went to Payroll, the Human Resources and Payroll EIS team, and the criminal investigation division of the UNT Police Department. Marsha Keffer, Program for Academic Readiness, and Kellye Church, Foreign Languages and Literatures, were recognized as Eagle Partner Award recipients. Two staff members received Top Ideas for Productivity and Savings (TIP$) awards. Heather Close, School of Visual Arts, was recognized for her suggestion to provide a space for old and new addresses on change of address cards used by departments and distributed by Mail Services, allowing the sender to update mailing lists. Rick Merrill, Facilities, was recognized for his suggestion to publish charts for prospective students and their parents comparing the cost to park at UNT with the costs of parking at other public universities. Soaring Eagles, nominated by their peers for outstanding customer service, and one Star Performer, Allen Clark, Planning and Analysis, nominated for outstanding performance in his department, were also recognized. UNT President Norval Pohl addressed questions submitted by the audience concerning responsibility centered management; the lighting of the clock tower to celebrate UNT athletic competition wins; a request to list all UNT department names on the UNT web site; flooding of parking lot 37 after heavy rains; rounding down of employees' salary increases; a required charge to park a school bus on campus; fire marshal codes and class sizes; the hard work of EIS project employees; and parking for D permit holders near Highland Hall. In addition to door prizes provided by various local businesses, a drawing was held to award one participant in the 2003 parking survey.
