University, Honors, Alumni days in April

UNT has plenty to celebrate in the month of April. It all kicks off with University Day April 4. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Shrader Pavilion with greetings from UNT President Norval Pohl and Denton Mayor Euline Brock.

The event includes the traditional firing of Boomer, UNT's victory cannon. Booths, carnival games and musical performances last until 2 p.m. Attendance is free, and lunch costs $2.50 per person.

On April 11 the university recognizes alumni, faculty, staff and students with an Alumni Appreciation Luncheon, Honors Day and an Alumni Awards Banquet.

According to Pat Sloan, advancement associate in the Office of Development and coordinator of the alumni luncheon, this year's celebration will honor about 50 graduates being recognized by their departments as outstanding alumni. The awards will be presented at noon in the University Union's Silver Eagle Suite. University alumni awards, with recipients chosen by a university wide committee, will be presented at the Alumni Awards Banquet in the Gateway Center Ballroom.

The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception, and dinner is served at 7:30 p.m. Call (940) 565-2900 for tickets to the luncheon, which cost $10, or tickets to the reception and dinner, which cost $40.

Honors Day commences at 3 p.m. in the Murchison Performing Arts Center. This year's featured speaker is Harry Joe, a UNT Distinguished Alumnus who is currently president of the North Texas Exes board of directors. Awards will be given out to exemplary students at the ceremony.
