Chancellor search advisory committee
formed
Fifteen
people have been appointed to a committee to advise the UNT System Board
of Regents as the regents search for a new system chancellor.
UNT System
Chancellor Alfred F. Hurley announced in January that he plans to step
down from his position this fall.
The
search advisory committee will review applications received for the chancellor
position and make candidate recommendations to the regents, who will make
the final selection to fill the position. The committee held its first
meeting in February.
The committee
includes representatives of the faculty, staff, students and administration
of UNT, the UNT System and the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth
and representatives of the communities of Denton, Fort Worth and Dallas.
"We
are ready and able for the task ahead of us," says UNT Regent Gayle
Strange, who is serving as the committee chair. "It is an exciting
time in the life of the university and system, and it is a time to build
on the fine traditions in place. Dr. Hurley leaves us with big shoes to
fill."
Strange
says the committee encourages people to nominate candidates. Potential
candidates should visit the web site of Korn Ferry International, www.kornferry.com,
which is assisting the UNT System with the search process.
Bobby Ray,
UNT Board of Regents chair, says the board hopes to name a new chancellor
by the end of the fiscal year in August.
