Regents appoint Shrader VP for development

The UNT System Board of Regents appointed David Shrader, professor of music and special assistant to the chancellor, as the university's vice president for development during its regular meeting Feb. 22.David Shrader

Shrader, who held the university's chief fund-raising position on an interim basis during a national search in 1996, took over the duties again in June 2001 after the untimely death of Mark Moore, the vice president hired in 1996.

Shrader was appointed in June to head the university's fund-raising efforts through the end of the university's capital campaign, which was launched in March 2001. Through his leadership and the work of the UNT development staff, the campaign has quickly met 75 percent of its $150 million goal.

Shrader first joined UNT in 1992 to lead the university's internationally renowned College of Music. Under his leadership, the college realized a 40-year-old institutional objective by opening the Murchison Performing Arts Center in February 1999. He resigned his position as dean in August 1999 to return to teaching and to serve as special assistant to the chancellor.

A percussionist, Shrader holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Iowa and a doctorate from the University of Oregon.
