UNT to debut :CRQ technology at capital campaign galacuecat

UNT is the first university in the nation to use :CRQ("See Our Cue") technology from Digital:Convergence Corp., and that technology is helping the university launch the biggest fund-raising effort UNT has ever undertaken.

UNT enhanced materials for its capital campaign Campaign North Texas: An Act of Leadership with the Internet-based technology and will showcase its use at an invitation-only gala on March 10 at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Colinas.

"The university's goal is to raise $150 million in the next three years," says UNT System Chancellor Alfred F. Hurley. "The :CRQ technology will contribute to reaching that goal by providing alumni and friends of the university with an instant link to additional online information."

:CRQ technology uses embedded cues to enhance information. Print cues, which resemble product codes, can be inserted into most printed material and are read through the :CRQ software using a :CueCat reader. The hand-held device reads these cues, instantly linking a user's Internet browser to a related web page, eliminating the input of lengthy URLs and time-intensive web navigation.

"UNT is known for being the first to model new programs, from its jazz studies to its video-gaming curriculum to its academic science laboratory for advanced electronic and materials technology," says UNT alumnus Bill Hunt, national chair of the university's campaign and board member of Digital:Convergence, "Now this tradition includes employing the :CueCat technology."

UNT students will be on hand to demonstrate this new technology at the gala unveiling the capital campaign. Several UNT's model programs also will inform and entertain guests.

"We are delighted to be working with UNT," says Casey Green, vice president of education, Digital:Convergence. "We know that our technology has significant educational applications, and we're pleased that the first deployment in higher education is with a local university that has a national reputation for innovation."
