Information and forms were sent to full-time faculty and staff members earlier this month detailing the permit renewal process, instructions for the use of payroll deduction to purchase parking permits, and the new pre-tax salary reduction payment option. Employees choosing the payroll deduction option for the first time must authorize the parking office to deduct the payment amount each month from their paychecks. The use of payroll deduction by faculty and staff members who previously chose that method of purchase will automatically continue this year unless the faculty or staff member elects to use another payment option. For the first time this year, employees also have a pretax salary reduction option, allowing UNT to reduce their salary each month by the monthly payment of the parking permit. Because the pretax parking option reduces the employee's salary, and federal income tax and Social Security tax withholding is also reduced, in some cases the take-home pay of the employee who chooses this option will increase. Employees choosing the pretax salary reduction option must authorize the parking office to deduct the monthly payment amount. In addition to payroll deduction and salary reduction, intercampus mail payment options include personal check or money order. Beginning Aug. 4, permits can be purchased at the parking office, located in the Sullivant Public Safety Center at the corner of Kendolph Drive and Wilshire Street, through payroll deduction, cash, check, or Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards. A faculty and staff "D" permit is $117, and a reserved "A" permit is $275. The nine-month payroll deduction begins with the first payment Oct. 1 of $13 for a "D" permit and $35 for an "A" permit. The next eight monthly deductions are $13 for the "D" permit and $30 for the "A" permit. Faculty and staff may also purchase "G" permits, for general parking. These lots are located on the perimeter of the campus, including at Fouts Field. The "G" permit is $100. The first payment made through payroll deduction is $12 and the next eight payments are $11. Permits purchased through intercampus mail will be sent to the employee's department in August unless the purchaser prefers that the permit be mailed to his or her home address, in which case a self-addressed, stamped envelope must be provided at the time of purchase. Employees cannot purchase a parking permit until all their outstanding citations have been paid.
