Child Development Laboratory

The Child Development Laboratory is a preschool within the College of Education. University students in early childhood education, child development and related fields may observe child behaviors, teacher interactions with young children, and appropriate educational environments and materials. Students may also practice using teaching strategies under the guidance of degreed early childhood development teachers.

Three- to 6-year-old children of university students, staff and faculty, and others in the community, are provided with cognitive, language and physical experiences in an emotionally supportive environment. Teachers prepare the environment, observe children's understanding and continually provide for children's development. Since children learn by doing, hands-on activities are emphasized. Early literacy learning is a vital component. Two classrooms function simultaneously, and children may be enrolled in either or both the morning and afternoon sessions, providing families with a full-day option.

The Child Development Laboratory is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and certified by the Texas Department of Human Resources. The program is a designated four-star vendor for North Texas Child Care Services, which provides funding for low-income students and working families.
