Symposium aids Texas' higher education future

giant appleOn May 2, during the UNT Higher Education Symposium, College of Education and Bill J. Priest Community College faculty did their part to respond to Closing the Gaps the state's strategy to improve higher education participation, success, excellence and research. The event gave prospective and current students an opportunity to meet with higher education faculty and learn about UNT's education program as well as the Closing the Gaps program.

Don Brown, commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, gave a presentation about Closing the Gaps. In stressing the need for the plan, he cited an increase in Texas' population and a decrease in the percentage of students
pursuing degrees in higher education. He also outlined progress made in responding to these trends.

Bill Wenrich, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District; Leonardo de la Garza, chancellor of Tarrant County College; and Bill J. Priest, the founding chancellor of the DCCCD, were all present.
