Regents approve admissions policy modifications
Actions
at the May 4 meeting of the UNT System Board of Regents included approval
of a 2002 admissions policy that continues support for automatic acceptance
to the top 25 percent of Texas high school graduates.
However,
the regents did tighten standards for admission of student applicants
ranked in the second quarter of their high school graduating class by
requiring a score of 1050 or higher on the SAT or 23 or higher on the
ACT.
The regents
also approved an increase in the undergraduate admission application fee
from $25 to $40 for students who apply for Fall 2002 and thereafter. And
at the same time, they authorized the university to discontinue charging
an undergraduate admission application fee to former students.
In other
actions, the regents:
- Approved
promotions and/or tenure for 50
members of the faculty. A complete listing of those individuals can
be viewed at www.unt.edu/inhouse.
- Approved
the appointments of James C. Scott as dean of the College of Music,
Richard A. Villarreal as athletic director and John H. Jones as men's
basketball coach.
- Approved
a maximum project cost of $31,036,000 for the Student Recreation Center,
which is expected to open for Fall 2003.
- Approved
faculty development leaves for 26 professors.
- Accepted
a faculty workload report certifying to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board that UNT is complying with minimum standard workload requirements.
- Approved
the renovation and naming of the MARC property at 1700 Wilshire as the
Sullivant Public Safety Center.
- Approved
honorary doctoral degrees to be awarded to Everett Alvarez Jr. and Joseph
L. LaManna, D.O., on behalf of both UNT and the UNT Health Science Center
at Fort Worth, at the Health Science Center commencement May 19.
- Approved
submission of property purchase requests to the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board for the purchase of a property adjoining the campus.
