Staff awards presented at sack lunch Several staff members were recognized at the President's Staff Sack Lunch May 9. Outstanding staff awards were presented to Tricia Banfield, College of Arts and Sciences; Terri Miller, Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services; Doug Renner, Coliseum; and Jim Webb, Payroll. Outstanding department awards went to the Center for Students' Rights and Responsibilities and to the Information Services Group in the Physical Plant. Two UNT police officers, Cpl. Blake Bumbard and Sgt. Patrick Black, received special recognition awards for the roles they played in subduing and taking into custody a man who threatened to commit suicide with a handgun on campus in April. Nancy LeMay of Public Affairs and Information Services and Gerard O'Donovan, professor of biological sciences, both received Eagle Partner Awards for their efforts to attract and retain students. Ruth Evans of Public Affairs and Information Services received a Top Ideas for Productivity and Savings (TIP$) award for her suggestion to install automatic doors with wheelchair access at the University Union Post Office, allowing access for individuals with disabilities even when the University Union is closed. Krysta Kaye, Libraries, also received a TIP$ award for her suggestion to post wheelchair accessibility signs throughout campus. Soaring Eagles, nominated by their peers for outstanding customer service, were also recognized. President Norval Pohl and other administrators addressed questions submitted by staff members on various topics, including faculty and staff raises; funding for the arts, athletic programs and research; the search for a UNT System Center executive director; and athletics ticket packages for faculty and staff.
