It is a
powerful experience to see a student cross the graduation stage. It is
even more phenomenal, believes Dennis Engels, when that student was assisted
by a scholarship you created. Two years ago, he and his wife established the Dennis and Donna Engels Scholarship, benefiting students in counselor education. As their vehicle of giving, they chose membership in UNT President's Council. With a $1,000 annual donation, which can be paid in monthly installments, council members create new scholarships or donate to existing scholarships. Members may choose to designate gifts to a specific area or leave gifts unrestricted for general scholarships. "I regularly see firsthand how students benefit from scholarships," explains Engels. "One slogan that means much to me is in arboribus, non crescit it doesn't grow on trees.' Students really need help. When we who teach and work here help fund student learning, we make a strong statement about the importance and quality of education at UNT." President's Council members are invited to three events each year at extraordinary venues across the Metroplex and at UNT. More information is available at www.unt.edu/development/presidentscouncil.html.
