Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia The university hit a high note when it established the Electronic Music Center in 1963. Since then the program, now known as the Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia, has evolved to include the latest music technologies as well as media not usually associated with music. The center, in the College of Music, now includes a focus in intermedia, which combines computer music with computer graphics, dance, theater, sculpture, creative writing and web-based technologies. CEMI is internationally recognized for its computer music education, composition, research and concert production. An annual CEMI Event Series showcases guest composers and performers from around the world as well as works produced at the center. For the 35th anniversary celebration during the 1998-99 academic year, the "CEMIsonics" recording was released through the Consortium for the Distribution of Computer Music (of which CEMI is a part), and a five-concert festival was produced. This year CEMI hosted the national conference of the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, during which more than 70 compositions and 10 papers were presented. Students, faculty members and visiting scholars use CEMI's state-of-the-art facilities in their artistic endeavors and scholarly research. More information is available at www.music.unt.edu/CEMI. Editor's note: InHouse is featuring official UNT centers and institutes. Additonal web resources
