RENOVATION OF CLARK HALL CAFETERIA

PERTINENT FACTS

At the February 2001 meeting, the Board approved, subject to a review of food service alternatives, the renovation of the Clark Hall cafeteria at a cost not to exceed $700,000. This review has now been completed and we are ready to proceed with the renovation project. However, due to the effect the rapid rise in utility costs has had on available resources, the University is recommending that the design, ceiling repair, and ADA renovations be completed at this time. The final phase of the project will be completed at a later date.

It is appropriate at this time to engage the services of an architect to prepare the design and construction documents. A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was issued and eight firms responded. Their qualifications were reviewed and the two firms were selected for further review. Each of them submitted their proposed design team and were interviewed. The following two firms are recommended and are listed in order of preference. Both are qualified and acceptable to the administration.

1. Carrell/Poole/Yost Architecture

2. James Kirkpatrick Architect

RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS

The President recommends, with the concurrence of the Chancellor, that the Board of Regents approve:

1. Select Carrell/Poole/Yost Architecture as architect for the renovation.

2. Authorize the Executive Committee of the Board to be notified upon award of the construction contract.
