Student development receives award for excellence in assessment

The Division of Student Development received the Ted K. Miller Achievement of Excellence in Assessment Award April 18 during the annual conference of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education in Washington, D.C.

This honor recognizes the work done by the UNT Division of Student Development Assessment Team, chaired by Jan Hillman, executive director of planning and advancement for student development, for the implementation of the division's comprehensive assessment plan. The plan analyzes the success and satisfaction of programs and services within the division during a five year period.

UNT is the first winner of this national award created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of CAS.

"CAS has been the pre-eminent force for promoting standards in student affairs, student services and student development programs since its inception in 1979," says Bonita Jacobs, vice president for student development.

The council is made up of 37 member organizations — such as the National Orientation Directors Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators — representing more than 100,000 higher education professionals.

"CAS will continue to have significant impact, especially as institutional effectiveness, student learning, outcomes assessment, accountability and quality assurance become increasingly important to higher education," Jacobs says.
