About 90 people attended a town hall meeting hosted by the Faculty Senate April 27 in the University Union Silver Eagle Suite. The meeting was an open forum for administrators to answer questions posed by faculty members. "The forum of a town hall meeting is an important venue for UNT," says Frances van Tassell, senate chair and forum moderator. "Faculty members were able to pose questions and make comments that expressed their views on events that occurred this year. The senate's purpose in presenting the meeting again this year was to support and encourage communication between faculty and administrators." The administrators who participated in the discussion made introductory remarks and then addressed questions submitted anonymously from the audience. Topics included the creation of a more community-centered, forward-thinking work environment; faculty hiring and the tenure/promotion process; departmental guidelines and university procedures in the tenure/promotion process; the administration's efforts to build trust and the confidence of faculty and staff; Responsibility Center Management; and UNT's workplace compliance and ethics standards. Ten administrators participated in the discussion: President Norval Pohl; Deborah Leliaert, vice president for university relations; Nancy S. Footer, vice chancellor and general counsel; Phil Diebel, vice president for finance and business affairs; Howard Johnson, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Greg McQueen, senior vice president for advancement; Richard Rafes, senior vice president for administration; Cassandra Berry, vice president for equity and diversity; T. Lloyd Chesnut, vice president for research and technology transfer; and Bonita Jacobs, vice president for student development.
