Faculty Senate chair reflects on a year full of changes

It has certainly been an interesting academic year at UNT. From the approximate 8 percent growth in student enrollment last fall to the anticipated 12 percent cut in the upcoming budget, this has been the year for records a year I am sure we will all remember for a long time to come.

In the midst of everything, however, much productive work has been accomplished, and the Faculty Senate owes the faculty for all it has been able to achieve. Thank you for your dedication to faculty governance, demonstrated by your participation therein. Thank you for serving on various committees and making the tough calls on multiple issues throughout the year. Thank you for taking a special interest in the evaluation of university administrators. The process was changed this year, and we showed an evaluation participation rate in most units of greater than 50 percent.

In short, I look back with pride at the Faculty Senate and the university. This year has convinced me once again that by standing together, the faculty can aid in making this an even greater institution.

For all you do, many thanks to you!

Jeffrey Oxford, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures, is chair of the UNT Faculty Senate.
