BRANDON BAYS, Eagle Student Service Center service coordinator, testified April 17 before the State House Committee on Public Education regarding Harryette Erhardt's Safe Schools Bill, designed to prevent discrimination in any public school based on the national origin, ethnicity, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation of a student or his or her parent. He is the co-chair of the Dallas Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network.

KELLY DONAHUE-WALLACE, assistant professor of visual arts, was a panelist and speaker for the Symposium for the Museum Interpretation of the Spanish Conquest and Colonial Period, April 26-29 in Waco.

THERESA FLOWERS, lecturer in English, presented a paper on the life of Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Gilman's work The Yellow Wallpaper, at the Denton Public Library, March 14, Denton.

L. PERRY KOZIRIS, assistant professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, co-wrote "The Effects of 10 Days of Spaceflight on the Shuttle Endeavour on Predominantly Fast-Twitch Muscle in the Rat," which was published in Histochemistry and Cell Biology, vol. 114, October. He also wrote "Anabolic-Androgenic Steroid Abuse" and "Reducing Alcohol Abuse in Active Patients," which were published in The Physician and Sportsmedicine, vol. 28, no. 12, December.

JAMES D. LANEY, professor of teacher education and administration and JOHN C. STANSELL, professor and chair of teacher education and administration, presented "Linking the Arts With Teacher Education Curriculum: Positive Outcomes and Improved Student Learning" at the Association of Teacher Educators conference, Feb. 17-21 in New Orleans.Nancy McCray

NANCY McCRAY, assistant director of University Planning and special assistant to the associate vice president for planning, received an award for 16 years of service to UNT's Student Support Services/Discovery program at a recognition ceremony April 10. She presented "Let Your Light Shine" and "TASSSP's Role in 'Closing the Gaps"" at the Texas Association of Student Special Services Programs annual conference, Feb. 5 in Abilene.

Dahryl Ramsey DARHYL RAMSEY, professor of music, wrote "Goals and Objectives for the Beginning Band," which was published in Teaching Music Through Performance in Beginning Band, GIA Publications, 2000.

The UNIVERSITY PROGRAM COUNCIL and the FINE ARTS SERIES had winning publications in the Association of College Unions International annual graphics competition. The UPC fall events calendar and the 2000-01 Fine Arts Series brochure, both designed by alumna DINAH MONTGOMERY, won second-place awards in the competition.

SHIRLEY WHITE, associate director of the Center for Continuing Education and Conference Management, was named regional director-elect of Region 7 (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana) of the Association of Collegiate Conference Events Directors International at its annual conference, March 18-21 in Atlanta. She will start her term as director in March 2002.

ARMINTA JACOBSON, associate professor of counseling, development and higher education and director of the Center for Parent Education, is featured in an April 20 Dallas Morning News column on parent education.

ROBERT WALLACE, professor of materials science and director of the Lab for Electronic Materials and Devices and BRUCE GNADE, professor and chair of materials science, discuss the new high-tech laboratory created by donations from Texas Instruments in the April 16 Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, discusses the possibility of Boeing choosing to relocate its headquarters to Dallas-Fort Worth in the April 14 Dallas Morning News.
