in the university's history and the first president inaugurated in 19
years.
Texas Legislature approves bill creating UNT-Dallas The Texas
House of Representatives gave unanimous support on April 19 to House Bill
1417, legislation that will statutorily establish the University of North
Texas at Dallas. The vote was 141-0 in favor of passage.
Community
leaders discuss education, work force issues
Participants at a recent education symposium hosted by UNT took a first step toward the goal of creating "seamless education." Topics
such as eliminating the high school dropout rate, creating a standards-based
curriculum across grade levels to promote seamless education from one
education level to the next, and successful teacher recruitment and retention
were identified as areas of greatest concern.
About 1,800 UNT students are expected to receive degrees during commencement ceremonies May 12.

Senate approves recommended grading change
UNT is
now connected to the effort to build tomorrow's Internet through Internet2,
a second-generation web created strictly for educational purposes and
experimentation.

members heard presentations by two guest speakers regarding smoking and
beautification issues at the council's regular meeting April 4. The only
light that pierces the night sky above rancher John David Monroe's property
comes from small, faint celestial objects. According to maps produced
by the Dark Society his land north of Gainesville is devoid of urban glare.
