Faculty Senate honors retiring director of international studies and programs
The UNT Faculty Senate honored Thomas Hoemeke, executive director of international studies and programs since 1979, with a resolution during the group's April 13 meeting. Hoemeke will retire July 31 after 38 years with the university.
The senate also heard a report from Sandra Terrell, dean of the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies. Terrell focused on accomplishments of the school for 2004-05 and past and future initiatives of the school.
In other business the senate:
- heard a report from Frances Van Tassell, senate chair, regarding awarding Sue Young, Faculty Senate administrative assistant, a Star Performer award; the Student Government Association election; the creation of an ad hoc tenure policies and procedures committee; progress of the academic plan; Responsibility Center Management; and the academic governance subcommittee.
- heard a report from Grant Miles, senate vice chair, regarding the Executive Committee's meeting with administrators. Topics included the status of tenure appeals; this year's promotions and tenure submissions; searches for deans in the School of Library and Information Sciences, the School of Visual Arts and the College of Business Administration; and the policy regarding protection of proprietary information in dissertations.
- approved a proclamation supporting Civility Day at UNT, which was April 13.
- approved a report from the Committee on Committees.
- approved proposed changes to the Faculty Senate charter. The changes included setting the terms of office for senate members and University Election Committee members to begin Sept. 1 and end Aug. 31; adjusting the makeup of the University Election Committee to consist of eight faculty members elected by the senate; and changing the name of the Fine Arts Committee to the Fine Arts Series Committee.
- approved a report from the University Elections Committee.
- approved a report from the Academic Affairs Committee.
