UNT to present honorary doctoral degree to capital campaign leader

UNT will award William O. Hunt, alumnus and longtime supporter of the university, an honorary doctor of humane letters degree at the May 14 spring commencement ceremony.

Hunt, a Dallas businessman, earned his bachelor of business administration and master of business administration degrees from UNT in 1960 and 1964, respectively.

Hunt's past efforts to promote and support the university earned him the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2000 and the Green Glory Award in 1994.

In March 2001, Hunt publicly unveiled a fundraising campaign for the university and, as national campaign chair, announced a plan to raise $150 million in pledges over three years.

Campaign North Texas: An Act of Leadership generated almost $200 million well before the three-year deadline. Its initiatives provided funding in four areas: scholarships and fellowships; faculty chairs and professorships; program excellence; and 21st-century learning, research and student centers.

Hunt currently serves as an outside director for Andrew Corp. and Mobility Electronics and serves as president and CEO of The Hunt Group in Dallas. Hunt also sits on the advisory board of UNT's Department of Management.
