Awards presented to staff, faculty members at luncheon

Several staff members and two faculty members were recognized at the President's Staff Sack Lunch Oct. 22.

Outstanding staff awards were presented to Betty Brumley, Grant Accounting; Dr. Dan Forrer, Student Health and Wellness Center; Linda Garrett, College of Music; and Brad Varcoe, Restricted Parking.

Outstanding department awards went to the Murchison Performing Arts Center staff and the Human Resources Department.

Robert Maughan and James Morrow, both faculty members in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation, and Eric Breland, Office of Disability Accommodation, were honored with Eagle Partner Awards for their efforts to attract and retain students.

Four staff members received Top Ideas for Productivity and Savings (TIP$) awards. Mohammad Al-Zubeidi, University Communications and Marketing, was honored for his suggestion to display a map of the UNT campus inside the Hurley Administration Building. Tonya Enis, Purchasing and Payment Services, was honored for her suggestion to recycle printer toner cartridges. Chuck Fuller, assistant vice president of business services, was honored for his suggestion to install atomic clocks across campus. Rebecca Padia, Computing Center, was honored for her suggestion to add a link to the Faculty and Staff Fitness Program web site on the "Resources for UNT faculty and staff" web page (www.unt.edu/facultyandstaff.htm).

Soaring Eagles, nominated by their peers for outstanding customer service, were also recognized.

President Norval Pohl was unable to attend the lunch. Richard Rafes, vice chancellor and general counsel and interim vice chancellor for administration for the UNT System and interim vice president for administration for UNT; Steve Miller, assistant vice president for human resources; and other administrators addressed questions submitted by staff members on various topics. Questions concerned the new Scrappy design; the College of Engineering; excellence funding; the removal of the UNT faculty and staff shuttle system; parking permits for employees of the UNT Police Department; handicapped parking; purchase order processing; performance reviews; and UNT's traditional holiday schedule.
