Campaign seeks to reverse trend in Texas higher education

UNT students joined with more than 100 other Metroplex college students and education and business leaders Nov. 12 to help kick off regional efforts for the statewide College for Texans campaign. The campaign aims to encourage hundreds of thousands of additional Texans to pursue higher education over the next decade and more.

New York Times art critic to present UNT's annual Nasher lecture Nov. 21

Michael Kimmelman, the New York Times' chief art critic, will present UNT's fifth Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Lecture Series in Contemporary Sculpture and Criticism.

Conference attracts international scientists to discuss latest technology

Imagine an apparatus that can check the safety of an unopened letter and generate radiation for cancer treatments. This device, a small accelerator, is the focus of the 17th International Conference on the Application of Accelerators in Research and Industry at UNT Nov. 12-16.

Tips to be a savvy holiday shopper this year

It's once again nearing the busy season for America's biggest pastime shopping.

Each year Americans spend millions of dollars for the latest in toys, clothes and electronic gadgets to please family members and spread holiday cheer.

With the holidays quickly approaching, now is the time to buy early and to buy cheap, says Christy Crutsinger, associate professor of merchandising and hospitality management. Most of all, now is the time to avoid the crowds.

UNT club battles one of the nation's most common fears

For many people, the idea of getting up in front of a group and giving a speech or making a presentation causes cold sweats, clammy hands and shaking. Public speaking has been acknowledged as one of the biggest fears in America today. Now, a group of people at UNT is working to combat that phobia.

Staff Council approves resolution calling for improvements to staffing levels, salaries

The UNT Staff Council approved a resolution during its regular meeting Nov. 6 supporting increased funding for new staff positions and increases in staff salaries for the 2003-04 fiscal year.

Weather closing information

Cooler temperatures mean winter is on its way. Unfortunately, winter brings the threat of hazardous driving conditions due to snow and ice.

When weather conditions pose a significant threat to the safety of students, faculty and staff members who commute to campus, UNT's offices will close. UNT classes will be canceled not only at the Denton campus, but also at all locations in the Metroplex where UNT classes are offered, including the Universities Center at Dallas. When the Denton campus closes, so does the UNT Dallas Campus (also known as the UNT System Center).

  Let the sunshine in — Construction workers continue making progress on UNT's Student Recreation Center, including installation of the center's imposing skylight. Work on the building began in March with plans for it to be in operation in time for Fall 2003.


Give a little to the community and get into the holiday spirit

Halloween has come and gone and Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. Before long, evidence of the approaching holiday season will be visible everywhere you turn.

In UNT's grand tradition of generosity, the Human Resources Department and the University Program Council are calling on UNT faculty and staff to participate in their annual food and toy drives and the Adopt an Angel program.
