MICHAEL ALTEKRUSE, professor and chair of the Department of Counseling, Development and Higher Education, presented "Counselor Portability and Preparing a 2001 Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs Self-Study" at the Rocky Mountain Association for Counseling and Supervision conference, Oct. 3-7 in Breckenridge, Colo.

JOHN R. COLLINS, assistant professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, maintained the department booth at the National Recreation and Park Association Congress and Exposition, Oct. 3-6 in Denver.

MARY FINLEY, coordinator of Union marketing, received the Shirley Bird Perry Outstanding Professional Award for her professional contributions in the college union/student development field at the Association of College Unions International regional conference, Oct. 18-21 in Baton Rouge, La. She also presented "Coming Out is a Family Affair: How to Build an Inclusive Campus Community" at the conference.

PETE A.Y. GUNTER, Regents Professor of philosophy and religion studies, presented "The Big Thicket and the Great Chicago Wilderness: New Approaches to Conservation" at the Interagency Wetland Workshop, Oct. 29 at the Tanglewood Resort in Grayson County. He chaired a session on Asian philosophy at the 63rd Southwestern Philosophical Society meeting, Nov. 2 in Dallas.

JAN S. HODGES, assistant professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, presented "Building Community Supports for Persons With Brain Injury" at the National Recreation and Park Association conference, Oct. 3-6 in Denver.

DARHYL RAMSEY, professor of music, received the Carson-Newman College Sesquicentennial Alumni Award for Teaching and Research, Oct. 11 in Jefferson City, Tenn.

BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, spoke about the impact of the Sept. 11 tragedies on the U.S. and North Texas economies on the Nov. 8 KERA-FM "Evening Talk Show." Weinstein also discusses the impact of the economy on charity giving in the Oct. 22 Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
