UNT seeking nominations for annual alumni awardsUNT trophy

The selection process for the 2002 alumni awards has begun. The recipients will be recognized at the Alumni Awards Dinner on April 12. Faculty and staff members who want to nominate alumni or friends of the university must fill out a nomination form and return it to the Office of Development by 5 p.m. Nov. 30.

Five awards based on nominations are given: the Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award, the Green Glory Award, the Honorary Alumnus/Alumna Award, the Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna Service Award and the Ulys Knight Spirit Award.

The Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award is given to an individual who has reflected extraordinary credit on the university by achieving distinction in his or her profession and has made significant contributions to society. The individual must not be an employee of the university or a member of its governing board.

The Green Glory Award is given to an individual whose assistance to the university has enabled it to have "a substantial margin of excellence in its endeavors." The recipient may or may not be an alumnus or alumna of the university, but cannot be an employee or a member of its governing board.

The Honorary Alumnus/Alumna Award goes to an individual whose devotion to UNT is obvious, but who has never attended the university. This person cannot currently be an employee of UNT or its governing board.

The Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna Service Award recognizes exemplary service to or accomplishments on behalf of the university by an alumnus or alumna in a volunteer capacity during the preceding year.

The Ulys Knight Spirit Award is given to an alumnus, alumna or group of individuals affiliated with UNT who have shown spirit, enthusiasm and motivation while contributing time and energy to a program or activity that is deemed to have benefited the university family.

All nominations for the awards must be made on official nomination forms. For more information, contact the Office of Development at 565-2900.
