Several staff members were recognized at the President's Staff Sack Lunch Oct. 22. Outstanding staff awards were presented to Charles Beverly Sr., Housing Maintenance; Charles Beverly Jr., Purchasing and Payment Services; Barbara Bradford, Learning Center; Donna Carter, Human Resources; and Betty Tuggle, Texas Logistics Education Foundation Center for Logistics Education and Research. Outstanding department awards went to the Center for Media Production, the Parking Office and the campus building representatives. Gloria Cox, associate professor of political science and director of academic core programs, and Chuck Fuller, assistant vice president for business services, were honored with Eagle Partner Awards for their efforts to attract and retain students. Five staff members received Top Ideas for Productivity and Savings (TIP$) awards. Susan Brockington, Chemistry, was awarded for her suggestion to label each classroom computer with a list of software available on that machine. Ray Jakeway, retired from the UNT Police Department, was awarded for his suggestion to install wheel guards around street signs on campus. Jean Keller, College of Education, was awarded for her suggestion to post the faculty and staff shuttle schedule on the UNT web site. Elisabeth Warren, Housing, was awarded for her suggestion to host a dinner theater production at the new Gateway Center as a way to introduce the center to senior citizens in the area. An award was also announced for Leah Chastain, formerly of Human Resources, who suggested that the university design personal and business checks featuring the UNT logo. Soaring Eagles, nominated by their peers for outstanding customer service, were also recognized. President
Norval Pohl and other administrators addressed questions submitted by
staff members on various topics, including the high number of e-mail messages
sent to all members of GroupWise every day; confidentiality issues; the
renaming of Big West Hall; and the designation of outside smoking areas.
