Faculty Senate approves bylaws changes
The Faculty Senate approved changes to the group's bylaws during its regular meeting Oct. 13.
The changes moved the time when new senators take office from May to Sept. 1 and modified the name of the Fine Arts Committee to the Fine Arts Series Committee.
Additional changes indicate that terms of University Election Committee members will begin on Sept. 1 and end on Aug. 31, instead of ending the day before the first Faculty Senate meeting in September.
Also regarding the University Election Committee, a change was made to the language of the bylaws to indicate that the committee will consist of eight faculty members elected by the senate, versus eight senators elected by the senate.
In other business, the senate:
- heard a report presented by Grant Miles, Faculty Senate vice chair, regarding discussions with UNT administrators about issues including: responsibility centered management; assessment of distance learning; building projects; new positions in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; summer school; and the status of past recommendations from the Faculty Senate and senate committees.
- heard a report presented by Frances Van Tassell, senate chair, regarding several issues including: meeting with academic units; senate committees; responses from Howard Johnson, provost and vice president for academic affairs, regarding questions posed by the senate; and UNT's League for Professional Women.
- approved a report from the Fine Arts Series Committee.
- heard a report presented by Charlie Milling, student assistant in University Union Programs, regarding the services of his department.
- approved a report from the Committee on Committees.
The Faculty Senate meets again Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in Wooten Hall, Room 322.
