Suggested healthy habits for the fight against the flu

With a nationwide shortage of flu vaccine, taking steps to prevent the spread of the flu is a good idea.

Here's a list of good health habits from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stop the spread of germs at home and at work:

  • Avoid close contact with people who appear to be sick when you are out in public.
  • When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from illness. Stay home from work when you are sick. This prevents others from catching your illness.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Also, remember to clean your hands often to protect against germs.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread through touching something contaminated and then touching these parts of your face.

For more influenza information, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web site at www.cdc.gov.
