American Heart Walk raises $50,000 plus

"This year's American Heart Walk held Oct. 9 in Denton was a huge success," says Rebecca Brooks, corporate market director of the American Heart Association, which sponsored the event. The walk raised more than $50,000, which was twice as much as last year's amount.

More than 300 participants from across the Denton community and the UNT campus worked to raise money for the cause.

"This year, the event added six new teams of walkers, which contributed to its success," Brooks says. UNT raised $4,000 for the event.

The Heart Walk aims to increase awareness of physical activity and heart-healthy lifestyles while raising money for research for the prevention of heart disease and stroke.

"This year's Denton American Heart Walk was a resounding success, as we exceeded our goal of $40,000," says Reginald Bond, executive director of student health and wellness services and Heart Walk participant. "Walkers both young and old really enjoyed this year's event."
