UNT toy and food drive begins Nov. 8

The UNT Human Resources Department will sponsor the annual toy and food drive from Nov. 8 to Dec. 10. Last year, this campuswide event provided 14,849 pounds of food and 1,185 toys for Denton-area families.

The Denton Community Food Center is accepting non-perishable food or money donations. The Silent Santa program is asking for new, unwrapped toys. Donations to both programs can be brought to the human resources office in Marquis Hall, Room 150, or to marked collection boxes in several campus locations.

Individuals interested in hosting a collection point in their building or department, or who would like ideas to get faculty, staff and students more involved, can contact Kristin McMeen, assistant director for human resources training and coordinator of the drive, at kmcmeen@unt.edu or (940) 565-3997.

"This event is a great opportunity for us to reach out to members of our community who are in need," McMeen says. "Each year I am in awe of the generosity of the faculty, staff and students at UNT. The overall drive ends up being really enormous, but it's because of the efforts of people all over campus who motivate those around them to donate."
