UNT implementing new Enterprise
Information System
One
of the largest projects undertaken in UNT history is well on the way
to becoming a reality.
Nine months have passed since a team of some 125 members from UNT in
Denton and the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth began work at
the UNT Research Park to make the transition from aging computer systems
to a web-based, integrated suite of PeopleSoft core business modules.
The modules include finance; human resources; student administration;
and contributor relations, which includes fundraising.
To minimize costs, a compressed schedule was developed that resulted in
implementation of several modules at the same time. To see an overview
of the EIS project schedule, visit www.unt.edu/eis
and under the “Project management” heading click on “Project
timeline.”
In spite of the compressed schedule, budget challenges and a hiring freeze,
several modules are now in use by the offices that were directly involved
with the implementation.
More extensive training will take place in November and December to begin
bringing departmental users up to speed in those components that are
essential in performing their jobs. Each functional area will notify
users of the training schedule when training pertinent to their job responsibilities
is available.
At the end of September the UNT Health Science Center began using the
contributor relations module to support its fund-raising efforts. The
UNT Denton campus is scheduled to begin using the new contributor relations
module toward the end of November.
The admissions processing module was smoothly implemented Sept. 29 in
support of the Fall 2004 semester. EIS is flexible enough to accommodate
the individual needs of six different offices on both the Denton and
Fort Worth campuses and continue support of the UNT Dallas Campus. More
effective, personalized communications come with this module, and the
ability for students to view their application status on the web will
be possible this spring. The other student administration modules, which
include financial aid, student finance and student records, are planned
for implementation this spring for the Fall 2004 semester.
Human resources will conduct training in November in preparation for
its mid-December EIS implementation. Prior to the use of the human resources
module, the human resources team will conduct extensive testing to compare
results of payroll calculations in the current system with EIS system
results. More of these details will be shared as the time nears to begin
human resource training of approximately 400 departmental timekeepers.

updates.
