Awards presented at Staff Sack Lunch

Several staff members were recognized at the President’s Staff Sack Lunch Oct. 21.

Outstanding staff awards were presented to Maria Martinez, Custodial Services; Kathryn McCauley, Student Legal Services; Clara Richard, Purchasing and Payment Services; and Denise Stansel, Teacher Education and Administration.

Outstanding department awards went to Dining Services, the fire marshal division of Risk Management and Environmental Services, the UNT Art Gallery, and Facilities Planning and Construction.

Four staff members received Top Ideas for Productivity and Savings (TIP$) awards. Sue Bryant, Development, was recognized for her suggestion to improve signage inside the Gateway Center. Ronnie Salsman, Facilities, suggested using UNT’s Printing Services rather than individual office copy machines to print daily reports filled out by many UNT staff members. Christy Strickland, Purchasing and Payment Services, and Terry Tehan, College of Business Administration, were recognized for their suggestion to honor outstanding staff members with a day of personal time. The suggestion became the soon-to-be-implemented Star Performer program.

Soaring Eagles, nominated by their peers for outstanding customer service, were also recognized.

UNT President Norval Pohl addressed questions submitted by the audience concerning the availability of the Staff Convocation presentation on the president’s web site; the possibility of adding a men’s baseball program at UNT; athletic conference realignment; the recruitment of local student athletes; the generation and use of discretionary funds; the busy schedule of Homecoming weekend; and the color choice for the cover of the UNT graduate catalog.

Five drawings for door prizes were held. Wendell McCloud, Risk Management and Environmental Services, won two tickets to Avesta; Jason Jolivet, Housing, and Sandra Thurman, Research Services, each won a $10 coupon from the Black-Eyed Pea; and Daniel Stones, Technology Use and Classroom Support, and Sandy Shelton, Purchasing and Payment Services, won coupons for appetizers at Outback Steak House or On the Border.
