CHARLIE JACKSON, director of facilities maintenance, was recognized for the completion of four tracks of instruction at the Institute for Facilities Management, Sept. 14 in Indian Wells, Calif. The institute offers a curriculum in the four main components of facilities management: general administration and management, operations and maintenance, energy and utilities, and planning, design and construction. Artwork by ANNETTE LAWRENCE, associate professor of visual arts, was displayed at the gallery at the University of Texas at Arlington from Sept. 2 until Oct. 4. An article by CATHLEEN NORRIS, professor of technology and cognition, and JAMES POIROT, Regents Professor of technology and cognition, was published in the fall issue of Journal of Research on Technology and Education, vol. 36, no. 1, 2003. The study is titled "No Access, No Use, No Impact: Snapshot Surveys of Education Technology in K-12." STEVE POE, professor of political science and Johnie Christian Family Professor of Peace Studies, was recently named chief editor of International Studies Quarterly. JOHN BOOTH, Regents Professor of political science and interim chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, STEVE FORDE and DAVE MASON, professors of political science, and JAMES MEERNIK, associate professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, were all named associate editors. by Publish America. The book, Nobody Knows His Name is the sequel
to his 2001 novel, Run, Run As Fast As You Can. BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, appeared on the Sept. 29 NBC Nightly News speaking about the exporting of American jobs. State JOHN BAEN, professor of finance, insurance, real estate and law, comments on the building and drilling of natural gas rigs near an Alliance Airport residential neighborhood in the Oct. 5 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. GLORIA BAHAMON, director of student services at the UNT Dallas Campus, comments on a speech given by former senatorial candidate Victor Morales at the UNT Dallas Campus in the Sept. 19 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Regional HARRY WILLIAMS, associate professor of geography, appeared on WFAA-TV Channel 8 for a Sept. 25 news segment about Dallas-Fort Worth-area homes built on soil that can cause foundation problems. Local JESSE ESCHBACH, professor of music, praises a rare organ purchased by the College of Music and the benefits it will bring to the program in the Oct. 5 Denton Record-Chronicle. BONITA JACOBS, vice president for student development; KENNETH BALLOM, dean of students; and CHONG CHOE, director of contracts administration and director of equal opportunity, discuss free speech rights on university campuses in the Oct. 5 Denton Record-Chronicle. DAVID McENTIRE, assistant professor of public administration and emergency administration and planning, talks about courses designed to teach residents of isolated communities with emergency and disaster training in the Sept. 29 Denton Record-Chronicle. ED REYNOLDS, senior associate director and deputy chief of police, comments in an Oct. 4 Denton Record-Chronicle article about an arrest made in the case of a motorcycle stolen from campus in September and the recovery of the motorcycle stolen from campus in September. He talks about the investigation that led to the arrests of five men accused of a string of burglaries on campus in an Oct. 7 Denton Record-Chronicle article. KEITH SHELTON, retired professor of journalism, recalls the installation of the flexography unit in the 1980s when he was editor of the Denton Record-Chronicle in the Sept. 21 article in the newspaper. The "flexo" technique improved the newspaper because it utilized a water-based ink that didnt bleed through the page or rub off on the reader. TOM SOVIK, associate professor of music, provides insight into Czech music and the benefits of a travel exchange program between Czech performers and UNT students in the Oct. 5 Denton Record-Chronicle.

Because so many employees have August anniversaries, those with last names beginning with A through K appeared in the Oct. 3 issue of InHouse.
He enlisted in the National Guard after high school in 1955 and remained in the guard until 1963. He received an associates degree in 1957 from Paris Junior College, and earned a bachelors degree in photojournalism in 1959 and a masters degree in education in 1960, both from East Texas State University. At UNT he served as the official football game photographer for many years and was the Yucca yearbook faculty adviser from 1963 to 1972. He left UNT from 1961 to 1962 to become an active-duty photographer for the U.S. Army. Kikers photographs have appeared in Newsweek (1967), Sports Illustrated (1975) and other magazines, as well as area newspapers. He received several honors from the Associated Collegiate Press and from UNT, including an Outstanding Professor award in 1970 and an Honor Professor award in 1982. He was a member of many organizations, including Sigma Delta Chi, Kappa Alpha Mu, the National Press Photographers Association, the Society for Professional Journalists and the Texas Association of College Teachers. He was a member of the North Texas High Frequency Association for ham radio operators and took part in various public service projects, including tornado watching. Survivors include his wife, Etha; daughter, Kimberly Kates; and one granddaughter. A funeral service was Oct. 8 at First United Methodist Church of Denton. Burial was in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
