Campus events planned for Halloween

The scariest night of the year will be here soon, and UNT departments are gearing up for some frightful fun and festivities to be held in late October. Activities include a murder mystery performance, the annual Boo Bash for children, trick or treating, a symphony performance and the screening of a horror cult classic film.

The Murder Mystery Players will provide a live, three-act, interactive murder mystery for the audience to solve from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in the University Union's Golden Eagle Suite. During the meal, the audience will observe the actual murder and participate in interrogations. A grand prize goes to the winning table. Tickets for the Murder Mystery Dinner can be purchased at the University Union information desk. Tickets for faculty and staff are $20 for singles or $35 for couples. Ticket purchasers need to show their UNT ID to get the faculty and staff price.

The Boo Bash a Halloween carnival for children features game booths, contests, face painting, music and a safe alternative to trick or treating. It takes place Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Level 1 of the University Union. The event is free.

Children enrolled in the Child Development Lab will again participate in trick or treating on campus in the late morning and during the afternoon of Oct. 31. Departments should call (940) 565-2555 to be included on the trick or treaters' list of stops.

The College of Music will present a Halloween Symphony Pops concert Oct. 31 in Winspear Hall, complete with costumed performers. The concert will include performances of creepy musical favorites, like theme songs from Psycho, The Addams Family, Ghostbusters and Pirates of the Caribbean; the orchestral suite from Webber's Phantom of the Opera; and Saint-Saens' "Danse Macabre." Anshel Brusilow will conduct. The concert begins at 8 p.m., and tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at (940) 369-7802. Faculty and staff tickets are $7.

On Halloween night, there will also be a screening of the horror-musical classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show from midnight until 2 a.m. in the University Union Lyceum. Tickets cost $2 with a UNT ID or $1 with a costume and UNT ID. The movie is rated R.
