A. ADKISON,
associate dean of the College of Education and associate professor of
teacher education and administration, will serve as president of the National
Council of Professors of Educational Administration for 2000-2001. BARBARA ALTMAN, lecturer in management, was published in Research in Stakeholder Theory, 1997-1998. The article is titled "Defining 'Community as Stakeholder' and 'Community Stakeholder Management': A Theory Elaboration Study."
KEVIN
J. CALLAHAN, associate professor of technology and cognition, presented
"Using Self-Management Strategies to Increase the On-Task Behavior
of Students With Autism in a General Education Classroom" at the
fourth annual European Meeting for Experimental Analysis of Behavior,
July 7-14 in Amiens, France. PETE A.Y. GUNTER, Regents Professor of philosophy and religion studies participated in planning sessions for the Big Thicket Davis Hill State Park Sept. 12. He also gave a talk titled "Be a Philosopher: Aldo Leopold and the Facts of Life" at the Dallas Sierra Club, Sept. 13 in Dallas. JOHN HIPPLE, senior staff counselor and associate professor of counseling, development and higher education, with KRIS CHESKY, research assistant professor at the Texas Center for Music and Medicine, were published in the TCA Journal, 2000, vol. 28, no. 2. The article was titled "Alcohol Use Patterns and Perceptions of Substance Abuse Among University Music Majors: A Preliminary Investigation." MICHAEL McGUIRE, assistant professor of public administration, has co-written a chapter in El Nuevo Federalismo en America del Norte (The New Federalism of North America), Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, 2000. The chapter is titled "Federalismo en Estados Unidos: Administracion Desde la Base" ("U.S. Federalism: Managing From the Bottom"). RICHARD G. SMITH, associate professor of behavior analysis, received the Research Award for Outstanding Research Contributions in the Mental Retardation Field from the Texas Association on Mental Retardation, Aug. 4 in Galveston. DONALD E. STAPLES, professor of radio, television and film, presented "Production Problems on The Man Who Would Be King," at the annual meeting of the University Film and Video Association, Aug. 19 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Staples is a former president and life member of the international organization. BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, and TERRY CLOWER, assistant professor of applied economics and associate director of the center, presented "Making the Grade: A Critical Review of State and City Ranking Surveys" at the 40th Congress of the European Regional Science Association, Sept. 1 in Barcelona, Spain.

JOHN HIPPLE, senior staff counselor and associate professor of counseling, development and higher education, and KRIS CHESKY, research assistant professor at the Texas Center for Music and Medicine, are featured in a Sept. 20 Fort Worth Star-Telegram article about the treatment of disorders common in performing artists. Hipple is also interviewed in the May-July Dallas-Fort Worth Musician regarding his research. Chancellor ALFRED F. HURLEY and BONITA JACOBS, vice president for student development, comment on recruitment efforts by the university and the increase in enrollment as a result of those efforts in the Sept. 14 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. A new pedestrian safety program started at UNT is discussed by KURT NEUFANG, assistant director for parking and transportation in the UNT Police Department, in the Sept. 7 Denton Record-Chronicle. DARHYL RAMSEY, professor of music and director of Start Up the Band, comments on the success of the after-school band program for fifth-graders in Denton's Owsley Addition in the Sept. 13 Denton Record-Chronicle. The impact of increased oil prices on the Texas economy is discussed by BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, in the Sept. 21 Dallas Morning News.
