Regents
appoint Norval Pohl as UNT's 13th president
The UNT System Board of Regents voted unanimously Oct. 10 to confirm Norval F. Pohl as the 13th president in the history of UNT.
As of the 12th class day (Sept. 11) for the Fall 2000 semester, unofficial enrollment at UNT is 27,132.
This year's increase of 639 students is 2.4 percent ahead of last year's enrollment.
Governor appoints Robert A. Nickell to UNT Board of Regents
Even though the triple-digit temperatures have dipped into the double digits, and there is a slight chance of rain in the forecast, Don Smith, associate professor of biological sciences, says the area's trees are still at risk of dying.

faculty, staff, students, former students and friends of the university
come together.
UNT Program helps local students
Students enrolled in COMS 4610, Community Service in Action, serve as mentors to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from Strickland, McMath and Calhoun middle schools in Denton and Stockard Middle School in Dallas. They meet with their assigned students on the school campuses at least twice a week.

student wins Stanley Scholarship from TAMS
Bach Bui of Houston received this year's Julian C. Stanley Scholarship given by the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science.
Academic Kickoff promotes higher education
About 500 high school and community college students got a taste of UNT during the fifth annual Academic Kickoff Oct. 14.
