Technology competition coming to Denton

There will be coaches, fans and cheerleaders, but the upcoming DC BEST contest is not a typical sporting event — it's a technology competition.

DC BEST — Denton County Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology — is a non-profit organization that holds robotics contests encouraging students to seek careers in science and engineering. The event, which is sponsored by the College of Engineering, begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 30 at the UNT Coliseum. Admission is free and open to the public.

Student teams representing 27 area high schools are scheduled to participate. Provided with kits of equipment, parts and game rules, the students will design, build and test small radio-controlled robots to outperform other robots.

For more information contact Leticia Anaya, lecturer in the College of Engineering, at (940) 565-2366 or visit www.etec.unt.edu/dcbest/home.htm.
