UNT professor of physics to deliver Regents Faculty Lecture Nov. 3

Zhibing Hu, professor of physics, will describe his research accomplishments during this year's UNT Regents Faculty Lecture from 8 to 9 p.m. Nov. 3 in the University Union Lyceum.

Admission is free, and a reception will follow in the Union's Silver Eagle Suite from 9 to 10 p.m.

Titled "Smart Gels for Bio-medical and Pharmaceutical Applications," the lecture will show how interdisciplinary research leads to technological breakthroughs. Hu will discuss smart gels — water-based, gelatin-like polymers that can be programmed to expand and contract in response to changes in temperature, pH levels or electric fields.

Smart gels are particularly useful in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications due to their high water content, which is similar to natural tissue.
