Gateway Center to open for Homecoming

During the Oct. 13 Homecoming festivities, students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors can get a sneak peek inside the newest addition to UNT's Denton campus the Gateway Center.

Tours of the center from noon to 3 p.m. will allow visitors to see the classroom, conference and banquet facilities. The Marcus Wolfe Trio will entertain visitors and refreshments will be provided. Each tour will consist of a group of about a dozen visitors.

"We expect the left side of the building to be fully functional by the end of October," says Chuck Fuller, assistant vice president for business services. "A few events are already scheduled to be held in the conference room."

The administrative portion of the building is nearing completion but will not be available for tours. Construction on the 116,000-square-foot building began in May of last year. The center will have 22 classrooms, a visitors center, a conference center and exhibit hall facilities. In addition, the center will house distance learning facilities, the Club at Gateway Center (a hospitality management program training restaurant) and offices for the North Texas Exes, the development office, the UNT Foundation and the UNT System chancellor and his staff.

Construction is scheduled for completion at the end of this semester. Classes are expected to be held in the center next semester.
