Hispanic Heritage Month continues at UNT through Oct. 15

Since mid-September, UNT has celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with events aimed at highlighting the history, tradition and culture of the Hispanic people.

Events have included a Mexican American Civil Rights Movement film series; special lectures on the cultural roots of the Caribbean islands given by Dulce Isalguez Parker, a native of the Dominican Republic; and an exhibit at the UNT bookstore that will be on display through Oct. 15

A screening of the final installment of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement film series is set for noon Oct. 8 at the University Union, Room 244. Parker wraps up her lecture series from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in Room 411 of the University Union.

The all-day International Latin Music and Arts Festival of North Texas, "Fuego y Alma 2001," will be from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Denton Civic Center. The month wraps up Oct. 15 with the 12th annual Hispanic Friends Conference from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Silver Eagle Suite in the University Union. The conference theme is "Beyond the Senses: The Arts as Prime Definition of the Hispanic Culture." For more information on the conference, call 565-2456 or visit www.unt.edu/edo/hfuntconf.htm, or call 565-3424 about the other events.
