Meningitis, flu vaccinations available to UNT community Oct. 18

UNT is planning a Meningitis and Flu Immunization Outreach Program Oct. 18 to vaccinate members of the UNT community against meningitis and the flu. The program is from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Silver Eagle Suite of the University Union. The meningitis immunization is $90 and the flu immunization is $22. To obtain information about insurance coverage, faculty and staff may contact Melanie Tracht in the human resources department at 565-4250.

A vaccination for bacterial meningitis is not a treatment of the disease. It can take up to two weeks following an inoculation to develop immunity to the disease.

The infection is spread by direct contact with infected individuals (for example, sharing a glass or cigarette, or kissing) or through the air via droplets of respiratory secretions spread by coughing or sneezing.
