Fall enrollment up slightly from last year

According to the unofficial headcount after the 2004 fall census date, the UNT student population has climbed to 31,304 — an increase of 239 students or approximately 0.8 percent from last fall.

The new numbers indicate UNT has posted an all-time high enrollment for four consecutive years and enrollment increases for eight consecutive years.

"Our consistent enrollment growth demonstrates the strength of UNT's commitment to the statewide ‘Closing the Gaps' effort and its ambitious goal to provide quality higher educational opportunities to growing numbers of Texans," says President Norval Pohl. "We are particularly pleased to experience an enrollment increase at this time because the Texas Legislature's decision to reduce funding to higher education and deregulate the tuition rate has led UNT and other public universities to raise tuition to avoid cutting back on academic programs and student services."

On-site enrollment at the UNT Dallas Campus is 1,197 students (accounting for 423 in full-time equivalents or FTEs). This represents a 10.8 percent increase over the on-site enrollment last fall, which was 1,080.

Until the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board verifies enrollment numbers and makes them official later in the fall, all enrollment statistics are unofficial, 12th class day numbers.
