The Texas State Employee Charitable Campaign is gearing up for another successful campaign as it provides state employees with a simple way to make voluntary, tax-deductible contributions to more than 400 different charitable organizations.

Employees received a pledge/gift form and brochure this month containing a list of the organizations eligible to receive support. More information about SECC-eligible charities is available on the SECC web site at www.unt.edu/secc, and extra forms are available by calling the Business Services Office at (940) 565-2101.

Sharon Norman, assistant director of business services and co-chair of the SECC committee, says this year's goal is $130,000 in total pledges, with a key emphasis of increasing faculty and staff participation.

Employees may join the campaign by donating as little as $2 per month in the form of a payroll deduction or make one-time cash donations, starting with a minimum contribution of $2.

The campaign's theme this year is "Committed to a Stronger Community."

"The statewide initiative is designed so that people can help those who are less fortunate and support charities in which they believe," Norman says. "At UNT, we have set a financial goal, but we also have a ‘caring goal.' Specifically, we hope to have at least 37 percent of our full-time faculty and staff contribute to the program."

Faculty and staff members should return their completed pledge forms to their SECC department/unit coordinator or directly to Norman in Crumley Hall, Room 182, by Oct. 31. Departments and units that achieve 100 percent participation will have a special edible treat delivered to their unit for an afternoon break. Also, edible treats will be provided in recognition of the 75 and 50 percent levels of involvement.

Contributions don't have to end with employees' personal donations, Norman says.

"Many departments are sponsoring a number of fundraising events that will contribute greatly to the campaign," she says.

For more information, contact Norman at (940) 565-2101 or Jean Keller, SECC co-chair and dean of the College of Education, at (940) 565-2233.
