| Minding the weather with free food and familiy fun
Combine free food and drinks, entertainment and celebrities, and you have a tailgating party. On Thursday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m., a tailgating party at Fouts Field is one of several events related to a day-long celebration sponsored by WFAA Family First — Severe Weather: Safety and Preparedness Expo and Town Meeting. Free hot dogs, drinks and other food items as well as free entertainment by some of UNT's finest musicians will be offered; UNT athletes will be on hand to sign autographs; a bounce house will be available for kids; and Scrappy and the UNT Cheerleaders will bring team spirit to the tailgate. At about 6 p.m., celebrants can browse through an exposition of weather and safety exhibits, followed by three simultaneous weather seminars. These presentations, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., will be offered by News 8 Weatherminds Troy Dungan, Greg Fields and Steve McCauley. Topics will range from severe weather to community emergency response. The day's finale will be WFAA's Severe Weather, Safety and Preparedness town meeting. At about 7:30 p.m. in the Gateway Center, the Weatherminds will provide information and participants will be encouraged to ask questions about weather and safety.
