SUE BRATTON, assistant professor of counseling, development and higher education, presented "Enhancing Personal Wellness in Counselor Trainees Using Biofeedback" at the International Association for Play Therapy conference, Oct. 5-10 in Baltimore.

SHOBHANA CHELLIAH, assistant professor of English, presented "Discovering Tibeto-Burman Linguistic History through 16th Century Meithei Manuscripts" at the ninth seminar of the International Association for Tibetan Studies, June 24-30 in Leiden, Netherlands.

DORIS COY, assistant professor of counseling, development and higher education, presented "School Counseling in the 21st Century" at the International Counseling Conference, June 15-24 in Costa Rica, and "Bullying" at the American School Counselor Association conference, June 22-July 2 in Cherry Hill, N.J.

DANIEL A. EMENHEISER, equal opportunity officer in the Office of Equity and Diversity, JOHNNY SUE REYNOLDS, associate professor and interim associate dean of merchandising and hospitality management, and alumnus MIWAKO YAMAGUCHI, were published in the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, vol. 9, nos. 1-2. The article is titled "Meeting the Needs of Japanese Consumers: Hotels in Japan and the United States."

PETE A.Y. GUNTER, Regents Professor of philosophy and religion studies, has been asked to contribute 12 keyword-indexed copies of his articles on Henri Bergson and the philosophy of science to the "Theory Lab" of the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research in Donau, Austria.Bertina Hildreth

BERTINA HILDRETH, associate professor of technology and cognition and associate dean of the College of Education, presented "Using Self-Management Strategies to Increase the On-Task Behavior of Students With Autism in a General Education Classroom" at the Fourth European Meeting for Experimental Analysis of Behavior, July 7-14 in Amiens, France.

L. PERRY KOZIRIS, assistant professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, presented "Use of Control Day vs. Pre-exercise Baseline in Determining the Endocrine Response to Resistance Exercise" and "Accounting for Circadian Rhythm Yields a Greater Serum Cortisol Response to Resistance Exercise" at the National Strength and Conditioning Association Conference, June 21-25 in Orlando.

Lee MartinLEE MARTIN, associate professor of English, published his book From Our House: A Memoir, Dutton Publishers, spring 2000. He gave readings from the memoir at Square Books in Oxford, Miss., and the Chicago Public Library in June.. From Our House was a Barnes & Noble "Discover Great New Writers" selection.. Martin's story "Thumb Under" was published in Crab Orchard Review, vol. 4, no. 2. He was also published in Texas Short Stories 2, Browder Springs Publishing Co., 2000.

MICHAEL McGUIRE, assistant professor of public administration, was published in Economic Development Quarterly, August 2000. The article is titled "Collaborative Policy Making and Administration: The Operational Demands of Local Economic Development."

JEFFREY OXFORD, assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures, presented "Blasco Ibáñez and Animal Portrayals: An Attempt at Societal Reformation" at the Millennial Animals Conference, July 29-30 in Sheffield, England. He also presented, "Esclavitud y libertad. Diario de una prisionera: Censorship in a Democratic Society" at the annual meeting of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Aug. 2-6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

ALEXANDER PETTIT, associate professor of English, edited three volumes in the Selected Works of Eliza Haywood, Pickering & Chatto, 2000. The volumes are Miscellaneous Works, 1725-43; Epistles for the Ladies; and "The Wife:" "The Husband" & The Lady."

PETER SHILLINGSBURG, visiting professor of English, presented "A Modified Resistance to German Editorial Theory" at the biannual conference of German Scholarly Editors, March 3-8 in Lingen, Germany; "Victorian Fiction Shapes Shaping Reading," at the international conference of SHARP (Study of the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing), July 3-8 in Mainz, Germany, and "The Ontology of Text, Where, What, Whose Text" at the National University of Singapore Conference on Electronic Texts, July 31-Aug. 2 in Singapore.

RANDALL E. SCHUMACKER, professor of technology and cognition, presented "Educational Research Methods: A Web Course" and co-presented "A Comparison of Multivariate Normal and Elliptical Estimation Methods in Structural Equation Modeling" and "Identifying Different Item Performance by Subgroups in Rasch Measurement: A Comparison of Classical and Rasch Measurement Approaches" at the American Educational Research Association annual meeting, April 24-28 in New Orleans. Schumacker, was an invited guest speaker for "Roast Lawrence Erlbaum" at the American Psychological Society annual meeting, June 8 in Miami Beach.

SANDRA SPENCER, lecturer of English, was published in Nineteenth-Century British Women Writers: A Bio-Bibliographical Critical Sourcebook, Greenwood Press, spring 2000. The article is titled "Isabella Mary Buton (1836-1865)."

JACQUELINE VANHOUTTE, assistant professor of English, was published in Sel: Studies in English Literature, spring 2000. The article is titled "Community, Authority and the Motherland in Sackville & Norton's Gorboduc."

RICHARD CHARLES ALLEN, 45, of Denton, formerly of Northfield, Minn., died Sunday, July 30, in Denton. He was born Sept. 16, 1954, in Northfield, Minn., to Frank and Dagmar (Ormseth) Allen.

Allen attended Carleton College and graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his master's of fine arts in 1992. He was an assistant professor in printmaking and print at University of North Texas.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minn. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetary in Northfield.

Survivors include mother, Dagmar McKay of Northfield, Minnn.; four brothers, Paul Larsen of West St. Paul, Minn., Merrill Allen of Northfield, Minn., Roland Allen of Minneapolis, Minn.,and Michael Allen of Edina, Minn.; and four sisters, Mary Wolfe of Hampton, Iowa, Pat Murray of St. Paul, Minn., Kathleen Shumway of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Carol Garcia of West St. Paul, Minn.
