UNT celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
UNT will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of celebrations and educational events from mid-September to mid- October. Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1989 and is observed nationally.
"Diversity is a daily reality," says Andrea Robledo, assistant director of the UNT Multi-cultural Center. "It is important to celebrate the contributions of everyone in order to provide cultural role models for younger generations."
Robledo says many UNT organizations and individuals have worked together to arrange activities and learning opportunities during Hispanic Heritage Month for students and those from the Denton community.
"We hope to show that the Latin culture is not just made up of Mexican food, but includes the wealth and diversity of Dominicanos, Puertoricans and the peoples of Central and South America and the Caribbean," she says.
