Regents approve new construction, renovations
During this year's regular summer meeting of the UNT System Board of Regents Aug. 26, regents approved new construction projects on the Eagle Point Campus and renovations at the UNT Research Park.

$4 million bequests benefit Department of Biological Sciences and research at UNT
In a public ceremony at UNT Sept. 2, university administrators announced a bequest of more than $3 million from the estate of Mary Beth Baird ('55, '57 M.S.) and a bequest of $1.2 million from the joint estate of Baird and her husband Mellon C. "Bud" Baird ('55, '60 M.B.A.).

The university will recognize African American athletes who broke barriers in North Texas sports during a day of festivities Oct. 2 as part of its yearlong observance of the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of the university.

Start-up the Band seeking used instruments
Blow the cobwebs out of that old trumpet, trombone or clarinet you've got stored in the attic, closet or garage and contribute it to the College of Music. The college needs instrument donations to continue Start-up the Band, an after-school band program in which fifth-graders learn the basics of music before they begin the formal band program in school.

George Foreman to speak at annual leadership lunch
George Foreman, who rose from a world of teenage street brawls to become boxing's heavyweight champion and a nationally recognized entrepreneur, will speak at the Green Mountain Dallas Leadership Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Hotel Inter-Continental in Addison. The annual luncheon is conducted in cooperation with the UNT Murphy Enterprise Center.
