Families to share in Mean Green spirit Sept. 26-28

Every Friday may be pride day on campus, but on Sept. 26, the Mean Green spirit will spread to the families of students, faculty and staff during Family Weekend 2003. To participate, register in advance or between 5 and 8 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Gateway Center.

This year's festivities, which include events geared to Eagles of all ages, begin Friday evening with Scrappy's Extravaganza a party with music, dinner, a pep rally and prize drawings. Later that night, participants can either watch X2: X-Men United in the Lyceum or attend a wine and cheese jazz reception.

Saturday, participants can have brunch with the president and coffee with the provost before heading out to explore downtown Denton by hitching a ride on a trolley to the historic Denton square. Also on Saturday, tailgating activities begin at 3:30 p.m. at Fouts Field before the Mean Green take on the University of Louisiana-Lafayette at 7:05 p.m. A number of events are planned for families during the pre-game party, including a chili cookoff and carnival.

On Sunday, families may opt to spend the afternoon at the Denton Water Works aquatic park, which has been reserved for Family Weekend attendees.

All UNT families are invited to participate in Family Weekend, and registration forms are available from the Office of Student Development, (940) 565-4909.

Weekend passes for all Family Weekend activities cost $25 for UNT faculty and staff members, $50 for adults, $20 for children ages 4 to 17, $10 for UNT students with a seven-day meal plan or $20 for UNT students with a five-day meal plan. Admission to the Denton Water Works aquatic park is an additional $5 per person.

Visit www.unt.edu/fye/family.htm for more about event times and location information and for a Family Weekend registration form.
