A recent interpretation by UNT's Legal Affairs Office states that two provisions for holiday pay entitlement that were previously reported in InHouse as being applicable to UNT employees do not apply to higher education institutions. Therefore, UNT's human resources department says that the current policies and procedures will remain the same. Under the current policy: An employee must be on active (paid) status on the last work day prior to the date when a holiday occurs in order to be paid for it. But, the employee does not have to be in a paid status on the first work day following the holiday in order to be paid for it. Staff members (including commissioned peace officers) can be required to work on a holiday, but will be given alternate time off at a rate of one hour for each hour worked. But, commissioned peace officers do not receive any additional comp time credit when their work schedule requires them to work on a state or national holiday that falls on a weekend.
