Institute for the Integration of Technology into Teaching and Learning The Institute for the Integration of Technology into Teaching and Learning (IITTL), founded in 1999, carries out research and publishes findings to help educators with the complex task of integrating technology into education. As computers have become a staple in education, university faculty and kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers must look at the best ways to implement them into their curricula. The institute uses data-driven research to help determine which practices are best for individual classrooms. Focusing on attitudes of teachers and children using technology, the institute has received grants totaling more than $2 million to continue its research and implement the best teaching techniques. The institute also incorporates its own findings to further educate future teachers at UNT. For example, students enrolled in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems 4100 will learn how to use personal digital assistants as teaching tools of the future. Gerald Knezek, professor of technology and cognition, serves as director of IITTL. Tandra Tyler-Wood, associate professor of technology, and Rhonda Christensen, research scientist, are associate directors and principal investigators for grants fostered by IITTL.
